  1. I agree with you, but at the same time, I would rather deal with a believer who believes evolution is an avenue of God than a believer who ignores all evidence and insists that the earth is about 6,000 years old. I think believers who go for evolution tend to dismiss the “science” in the Bible, saying not every word is infallible (unlike YECs) and the BIble should be primarily used as a philosophical, religious book, NOT a science book. Therefore, the factual errors don’t bother them. The Bible, while still valuable for literary reasons and for the impact it has had on our culture, is, of course, a terrible book to get a moral code from, etc, etc, but everyone picks and chooses which verses they like and claim that’s the “true” version of Christianity. That’s what drives ME the craziest, because you have to argue EVERYTHING when arguing religion: science, history, ethics, etc, etc. You can’t just argue science or just philosophy. One thing leads to another. Like, The Greatest Show on Earth is science, but you couldn’t just have a conversation about that with a YEC! Not sure if I am making any sense or if I am just coming across as rambly. My apologies if it’s the latter! :S

I’m out of town right now, but that book is waiting for me when I get home. Can’t wait to read it! And the next time my parents buy my daughter something religious in nature, I am going to buy a copy of that book for them! ;)

  2. Love it! (I know, not the most intelligent reply.) Your blog was just what I was looking for!

  3. You can’t say that you “believe in evolution”. It fuels the theists’ arguments. We atheists (and many other people) *accept* evolution. You can’t “believe” in evolution, you either accept or reject it. I’d be careful using the word theory too. Theists will take off on that word.
